Who are we?

Leicester Wheels for All is a registered charity, formed in 2016. Our purpose is to provide disabled children and adults throughout Leicester and Leicestershire with the opportunity to experience the sense of freedom and independence that cycling can bring. We operate with a mix of volunteers and paid session leaders, overseen by our trustees.

What do we do?

As you can see by watching our videos we use a mix of trikes, quadcycles, hand cycles and other more specialist machines to ensure that anyone can take part in our events. It is our proud boast that we can always find a machine for everyone, no matter what their level of disability may be. In fact the only users we cannot accommodate are those in electric wheelchairs, as they exceed the limits of our specialist wheelchair platform trikes. But we are working on that – see our Go Fund Me page! (opens in a new tab)

Where do we do it?

Thanks to the generosity of Leicester City Council, our fleet is based at the Saffron Lane athletics stadium, where regular sessions are held on Fridays and Sundays throughout the year. But our Luton van means that we can take a selection of our machines to any destination in the city and county. We have held sessions at many locations throughout the city, and regularly travel to county towns including Market Harborough, Melton and Loughborough.

When do we do it?

Throughout the year! Check out our Calendar (opens in a new tab) for more details, but there is rarely a week in which we are not operating a session somewhere.

How do we do it?

You can see from Our fleet that we have a huge range of cycles available, from the smallest child's trike to a platform trike that can accommodate a wheelchair user without their having to transfer. And everything in between! We have steadily increased the number of machines available over the years. Some have been very kindly given to us, often by parents whose children have outgrown them, but the majority we have bought, either new or second-hand. As you can imagine, they are not cheap, and we are always looking for additional sources of funding.

Why do we do it?

This is the easiest question to answer – you have only to look at the smiles on the faces of our clients, and the supportive comments they make, to show that we meet a real need. People come to our events from some distance away, as we are the only organisation locally that can meet their needs.

 HOW YOU CAN HELP US

If you are interested in working for us as a volunteer or session leader please get in touch by email or at one of our events.  We are also looking for officers, trustees and ideas of how we can involve more people in our organisation.  Please feel free to talk to us about your concerns and how we might improve our services.
